REVIEW BY SEMTEX MAGAZINE [Belgium]: Phallus über Alles: Iron Woman "Geez. I definitely lost touch with digitalhardcore in some way. I got into it around 1996 when a friend and I were getting loose with soft drinks and hanging behind a television watching live shows. All off a sudden they threw a report on this band Atari Teenage Riot. It was so fucking impressive to see them get lost on stage with some of the hardest music they could get away with. Back then I was deeply into hardcore and it definitely opened a door for me. Ran to the record store and got this "Delete Yourself" record which I still consider amongst my most influential records. Kind of followed everything Atari Teenage Riot did since then and saw them kick many asses in Germany and worldwide, even on a political level. They gathered a huge following in the underground music scene through the many years of dedication to their attitude and way of music. I fucking came nuts when I saw them once live and my ears were constantly ringing the whole week after I saw them. Atari Teenage Riot broke up sadly when Carl Crack died. The last Atari Teenage Riot record was a live record at Brixton which resulted in a completely chaotic noise show in which they kicked the asses of their own fans. That was definitely a highlight and proved the unpredictability of a band as Atari Teenage Riot. I kind of tried to follow most of the things that happened on Digitalhardcore Recordings the label from Alec Empire. Hanin Elias solo records, I dug up a cheap Nic Endo 12" at a London second hand store and won a Alec Empire live dvd plus found some cheap Patric Cantani records. That's where I kind of lost touch with digitalhardcore music in general. In some way I thought there was a need for evolution in this genre as most of it sounded the same. It didn't held my interest but it did mark an important part in my life. And it was new and exciting. Believe me there's still a pretty good underground scene going for digitalhardcore. You just have to look harder for it. Anyway, apart from this blatant egocentrism, I was very happy to get this record in my hands by this for me until then unknown act called Phallus Über Alles. Fatal Recordings is the label from Hanin Elias (ex-Atari Teenage Riot) and it's interesting and inspiring to see new labels like these who carry a philosophy and a spirit of revolting, revolution and change. Fatal Recordings is dedicated to the support of female artists who try to make their own change in the underground music scene. Interesting and worth supporting. Phallus Über Alles is a reaction/statement on the male dominated hierarchies everywhere around. Weaponed with a mohawk, hard breakbeats and a mic Phallus Uber Alles questions, propagates and criticizes the male and also female behaviour in our cultural perception of today. Phallus Uber Alles is influenced by Emma Goldman and other female feminist revolutionaries who inspired millions of other women around the world. Don't expect anything new here. This is digitalhardcore the way most of you like it. Hard jungle/breakbeats coming out of a drummachine, distorted samples, industrialized mechanized beats, female shouts and screams. Opener "Phallus Uber Alles" is the anthem for this record, instantly grabs you by the throat with some hardcore beats and singalongs. Be sure to raise your fist on this one! Second song "Brawl At The Boys And Girls Club" and "Hey Bill" are amongst my favorite tracks. Take a look at the song titles and you can guess where this mostly stands for "Chick Flix", "Whorecore", "Cunts For Cash"... Hard music with a message straight in your face. This record has everything a good digitalhardcore record should have: variety, fast drum and bass, breakbeats, and a pissed-off attitude. Nothing new neither bad here. It just felt good to have a record like this in my hands again and it sparked my interest for digital hardcore again. The future looks bright for Fatal Recordings and I'm also happy to know this strong iron woman. Phallus Über Alles. Support this." Visit Reviewer Site |
