There is a blog that we read over here in these parts on a regular basis because it is unfailingly full of a kind of obscurity and whackery that feeds the dark parts of our souls. That blog is Coilhouse.
The other day, they linked to a video that I felt was really important for people to see because it clearly delineates the cultural and industry implications of depicting women as one-dimensional, sexual beings, and it does so without passing judgment on sexuality or its display. It’s a difficult line to walk, being women who are comfortable with our own sexuality and women who feel strongly about the sale of sex, but also being women who have faced our own fair share of music industry discrimination when it comes to our “attractiveness” and our very presence in the music world.
